From Raw Footage to Final Cut: A Look Inside the Editing Room

Editors are critical to the post-production process, selecting from all of the footage and intricately arranging the best takes into the final film or television episode.

Our distinguished panel of editors will discuss the challenges of editing as they bring their creative contributions to the storytelling process.  They will also provide insight into capturing the writer’s and director’s visions, as well as working with sound designers and composers.

About the panelists:

Dave Edison

DaveEdison

Dave Edison toured for years as a stand-up comedian before turning his attention to writing, directing and editing. He co-wrote the sci-fi film “STEEL AND LACE,” was post production supervisor for “THE KEENEN IVORY WAYANS SHOW,” produced and edited the stand-up comedy DVD “DORN IRRERA: IS THIS THING ON?,” won AFI’s Visions of US Award and was an editor on the Emmy-winning courtroom reality series, “LAST SHOT WITH JUDGE GUNN.” Dave directed and edited the award-winning short film “SHORTY & MORTY”, edited feature films including the Big Bear International Film Festival selection “SHOTOKAN MAN,” the indie sci-fi “STARSHIP: RISING” (for which he was honored at the 2014 Action On Film Festival) and is currently editing the sci-fi feature “SPACE COMMAND.”

 

Ramon Alfonso

Ramon Alfonso started out in the US Air Force at 17. He has won several awards as a documentary filmmaker and as an editor, he has won an Emmy. He worked for ABC Network News covering several world events and was one of the late Peter Jennings’ travel editors. He has transitioned to editing promos and trailers while continuing his career working on TV documentaries and reality.

 

 

Aeolan Kelly

Aeolan Kelly

Aeolan Kelly is a New York City native. She has directed several short films, including the award-winning 35mm short UNDER THE BED. She studied writing at Skidmore College under Pulitzer-Prize winner Steven Millhauser, and has twenty-one years of experience working professionally in film and TV. Aeolan has worked on over 100 filmed projects in production and on-set, including shoots in New York, Los Angeles, and London. In the last fourteen years she has concentrated on post-production with an emphasis on HD workflows. Her extensive post experience includes commercials, trailers, promos, animation, animatics, documentaries, feature films, and episodic television. She has worked on projects for Paramount, Universal, Marvel-Lionsgate, Marvel Studios, Playhouse Disney, Miramax, The Weinstein Company, Jetix Network, Disney Channel, Warner Brothers, and CBS. In addition to major studios, she has edited for small production companies and boutique post houses. She has been an editor/camera operator (union) at CBS2/ KCAL9, and was part of the creative team at the station duopoly’s advertising agency, Agency 29. www.agency29.com.

 

Emery Emery

Emery Emery is a 30 year veteran of stand-up comedy, a published author with “THE ATHEISTS GUIDE TO CHRISTMAS”. He’s a producer and director of numerous television productions including: “JAKE JOHANNSEN: I LOVE YOU” and “PLAY DEAD”.  He also is the editor of the critically acclaimed film, “THE ARISTOCRATS”.  You can get more facts about Emery from the Wiki and IMDB links below:
