How Movies Work’s Cecilia Russell and UCLA’s Teacher of the Year 2009 Peter Russell will first show you the patterns of a great romance/coming of age movie by using scenes from SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, JUNO, THE WRESTLER and AMERICAN BEAUTY – and then we will use those patterns to create a great character and a great movie story all together, using HMW’s STORYMAKER, and HMW Tools like Core Wounds, 5 Traits, and the Dark to Light. This isn’t just a lecture, it’s also a living story creation, in real time, in this room — starring you and your talent – this afternoon. Come write a great movie with us!

Peter Russell is the co-creator of How Movies Work, a film story school, in Venice California, and teaches classes all over the world, as well as on line at How Movies Work (howmovieswork.com). He is also an award-winning teacher of film and TV story at UCLA Film and Television Division of the Extension school, where he was 2009’s ‘Instructor of the Year’. He has co-authored a book ‘How Movies Work’ that is coming out on Focal Press in 2013. Peter is also a longtime script reader for studios like like Imagine “A Beautiful Mind”, Participant Media “Syriana”, CBS Television Movies of the Week, Viacom, HBO, The Lifetime Channel, and many more. Finally, he is co-creator of The Chocolate Factory, a writer-based movie production company based in Venice, California, where movies are created by writers and for writers (no agents allowed.)
