Writing for the Web and Other New Media Platforms

A panel of new media writers and producers will share valuable insight and information about how to successfully create, market and sell content for the web and other new media distribution platform including:

  • Developing a compelling premise as the “engine” of your series
  • Writing short scripts that pack a punch to keep audiences engaged
  • Increasing production value while keeping costs down
  • Branding and developing a pitch package and strategy
  • Crowd funding and multiple forms of monetization
  • Leveraging content to hook and build audiences on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and other digital distribution platforms such as Google, Yahoo, Netflix, Amazon and Hulu
  • Gaining exposure and credibility as a writer and producer by submitting to film and web festivals and online platforms

DAMIAN PELLICCIONE

Damian Pelliccione

Damian Pelliccione has produced over 20 web projects, 5 shorts, 2 feature films, 3 commercials and 2 ARG marketing campaigns. Damian is currently an Adjunct Professor at Columbia College teaching the Film Marketing Class as a part of their Semester in LA Program. Damian also worked with brands like Chevrolet and Cadillac to develop and create new media opportunities to promote their new line up of cars at live events and auto shows across the US and in Europe.

Damian is developing SITCOM SONS starring Jeremy Miller (Growing Pains) and Michael Fishman (Roseanne). Damian’s company is also developing UNTITLED SANDRA BERNHARD WEB – SHOW. He recently produced Taylor Negron’s (Fast Times at Ridgemont High & Bio-Dome) original Web Series THE FORECLOSURE Starring Taylor Dayne (80’s Pop Singer), Taylor Negron and Elisa Donovan (Clueless). Damian’s company is currently producing www.iamcartera.com, the first ever interactive gay sci-fi super hero series. Damian associate produced and cast www.inthemoment.tv, a gay men’s HIV prevention and health campaign funded by The City of West Hollywood and Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. Currently in its 3rd season, the serial was advertised on the side of buses, billboards and bus stops. Damian has also worked in traditional media line producing for CMT Canada a clip show called CMT STAR. Damian also hosted and segment produced original non-fiction reports for Broadband Networks and VJIam for CBS and So Media. Damian was the consulting producer on the Disney Feature Film “Elle – A Modern Cinderella Tale.” Damian created and currently hosts Los Angeles’ first entertainment and tech mixer NEW MEDIA VAULT. Now in its third year, NMV has over 20,000 attendees and members and social followers and fans of over 100,000. Damian also event coordinated the after party to The 2009 Streamy Awards (Web TV Awards) with www.tubefilter.tv. Damian Currently sits on and founded the LGBT National Committee at the Screen Actors Guild. Damian also served on The New Technology National Committee at The Screen Actors Guild. Damian is a member of the IAWTV (International Academy of Web TV). Damian is also a member of The Producers Guild of America New Media Council and co-chairs the Broadband Committee. REBECCA NORRIS

Rebecca NorrisRebecca Norris is an award-winning writer, producer, and director, and owner of the production company Freebird Entertainment. Her current web series, “Split”, won an Outstanding Achievement Award at LA WebFest and was nominated for an Indie Series Award. Previously, her short film “On Becoming a Man” was accepted to 13 film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival, and won the Best Comedy Short Award at the IFS Film Festival and Best Short Film at the Athens Jewish Film Festival. Her short “Toasted” won the Audience Choice Award at the ShortsNonStop Festival in Toronto, and was a finalist in the Dances With Films 2-Minute, 2-Step Screenplay Competition, where it was produced with sponsorship from Canon and Adobe. Her work has been distributed on television, DVD, and online platforms, and featured on PBS.

To inspire other writers to produce their own work, Rebecca writes the “Writers on the Web” column for Script Magazine, where she explores the web series production process and interviews content creators and influencers in the web world. Additionally, she has spoken about web series writing and production at the Screenwriters World Conference, the Writers Store, LA WebFest, and Columbia College Chicago.

CATHERINE CLINCH

Catherine ClinchLongtime WGA member, former Board of Directors member and seasoned TV veteran, Catherine’s produced writing credits include: HUNTER, JAKE & THE FATMAN, KNIGHT RIDER, LOVE BOAT, HART TO HART, FOUL PLAY, TRUE CONFESSIONS and, most recently, RESCUE BOTS. She has served for nearly two decades as an Adjunct Assistant Professor, teaching advanced video production, screenwriting, convergence media and communication theory at California State University Dominguez Hills. She was Associate Publisher of Creative Screenwriting Magazine and was a key organizer of the first five years of Screenwriting Expo. She currently writes for Cultural Weekly and Studio System News, exploring media and technology – from mobile and apps to games, second screen and online digital – and blogs for The Huffington Post. Catherine serves as a media strategy and content advisor for companies through her consultancy Media Grazing. In the past two years, she has participated in nine Hackathons and won prizes for her app inventions at four of them. Catherine has also been awarded two US Patents for inventing a new form of mobile entertainment. Catherine believes than anyone who wants to build and sustain a career as a content creator needs to understand all forms of convergence media.
