October 27, 2012 – A New Screenwriting Paradigm

How screenwriters need to adapt to the evolving cultural environment with an alternative to the now antiquated three act structure.  All screenwriting questions will be answered.

 

Tom Lazarus’s first career was in entertainment advertising, where he created advertising for the major motion picture studios.  He also designed album covers and was nominated for a Grammy.  His second career was writing, directing and producing educational and business films.  He won more than two dozen international film festival honors including Best Educational Film of the Year at the San Francisco Film Festival.  He was nominated for a CLIO for directing a Fair House Public Service TV spot.

Then, Mr. Lazarus started writing for television, writing seven Movies of the Week including Hear No Evil and The Ordeal Of Bill Carney and working as a staff writer/producer for nine network series such as Hunter, Jake And The Fatman, Starman, Stingray, Mike Hammer and War Of The Worlds.

His feature credits include the original story for George Burns/Brooke Shields motion picture Just You And Me, Kid and the script for the Swedish made Revenge And Justice and the #1 film in America upon its release Stigmata.   He has had nine feature films made from his original screenplays.

Tom Lazarus has directed five feature films: Movies Kill, Word Of Mouth, House Of Love, Voyeur Confessions, and Exhibitionist Files.

Mr. Lazarus wrote, directed and executive produced five seasons of the cable TV hit 7 Lives Xposed.

He has a new book on screenwriting The Last Word – Definitive Answers To All Your Screenwriting Questions, published in August 2012, and has published two books through St. Martin’s Press, Secrets Of Film Writing and Rewriting Secrets For Screenwriters.

Mr. Lazarus is teaching Advanced Screenwriting Workshop and Advanced Rewriting Workshop at UCLA Extension, Writers Program, as well as The Master Class In Screenwriting.   Mr. Lazarus developed and is mentoring screenwriters in The Screenwriting Mentorship Program.

He has taught undergraduate screenwriting at the University of California Santa Barbara and a Master Class at California State University Northridge.  He is also teaching students around the world with his Private Consultations and in his online screenplay class.

Tom recently wrote and directed the sold out theatre piece Stevie Stern as Jewel Parker at the Hudson Theater in Los Angeles and will present Stevie Stern as Kick Ass Mary in early 2013.

Presently, Tom’s most recent play Do Unto Others is being workshopped in Los Angeles.

Tom will sign his new book THE LAST WORD, just out from mwp productions, the largest publisher of screenwriting and film related books.
