On August 10 at the Los Angeles Central Library's Mark Taper Auditorium, the Scriptwriters Network High School Fellowship held its annual script "performances." The event is called a "script performance" since the works are not read off the page as in a "staged reading," but actually performed by the actors with minimal set pieces, costumes and props.

The show began with Amanda Spitzer's "The Lucky Man Who Made The Grade," a cautionary tale of three high school friends at a strict prep school who drift apart when one of them turns to drugs.
"A Slacker's Love Story" by Paul Michael Garcia followed. This script portrayed two high school slacker buddies who vie for the attention of a beautiful French exchange student at their school.
The third piece was Reid Goldin's "Played By The System." A writer's "dream come true" turns into a nightmare when his screenplay is bought and the producer who takes over erodes away the original vision until he can't recognize his own movie.

The program concluded with "Time Scrambler," by Rebecca Schiele. A scientist creates a time machine and successfully averts a war by altering the events of the past. But self-interest pushes him to use the device to save his missing sister's life, merging the past, present and future in a cataclysmic way.
