TV Writers Panel: Inside the TV Writing Room *UPDATED*

Opportunities for television writers with fresh voices and unique perspectives continue to expand as networks, cable outlets and players like Netflix and Amazon Studios, ramp up production of original scripted television shows.

This writers panel will provide an insiders perspective of what goes on inside the TV  writing room including:

  • Working with the showrunner/head writer
  • Pitching story ideas
  • Breaking stories
  • Writing outlines and drafts of scripts
  • Working on set during production

Additionally, the panel will share their first writers’ room experiences and provide some helpful “do’s” and “don’ts” to be successful in the room.

Mickey Fisher is the writer/director of a handful of independent films you’ve never seen, a veteran musical theater performer, a playwright who has written, directed and acted in shows in a number of theaters around the country and a motorsports blogger who crisscrossed America on a three-wheeled motorcycle.  In 2013, he entered his pilot script for a show called EXTANT into a contest and within a few months, through a miraculous series of events, found himself bringing it to television with Steven Spielberg, Halle Berry and CBS.

Nkechi Carroll Photo-1Nkechi Okoro Carroll was raised in four countries and fluent in two languages, Nkechi spent her formative years living in the Cote D’Ivoire and England, where she was a member of the Oxford Youth Theatre. Her short films have been featured in film festivals on multiple continents, including North America, Africa and Europe. With a Masters degree in International Economics from New York University, Nkechi worked as a Senior Trader/Analyst at the prestigious Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Driven by her passion for writing, Nkechi embarked on bringing her experiences at the Federal Reserve to the small screen. It was that original drama pilot, THE FED, that landed Nkechi her first TV writing job. Nkechi previously worked as a staff writer on THE FINDER, starring Geoff Stults and Michael Clarke Duncan. She is currently a writer/co-producer on BONES on Fox.

Dan O'Keefe

Dan O’Keefe has written for National Lampoon, Married…with Children, Seinfeld, the Drew Carey Show, The League, Married, and Silicon Valley, and created a bunch of pilots that never aired. He is from New York.
